Michael Hazell, CMP, Public Sector Managing Partner

Mike works with all levels of government and the broader public service. He designs and delivers career management, leadership development and transition programs. A co-founder of Hazell & Associates (H&A), he served as President and CEO from 1996 – 2011. Mike is a founder and former board member of Career Partners International.

He is author of numerous articles published in the HR Reporter, other magazines and newspapers and is a sought-after speaker on subjects pertaining to career management, outplacement, work/life balance and workplace trends. Mike frequently appears in the media and has made numerous presentations to various professional associations.

Mike works closely with senior executives and managers from various sectors with a particular emphasis on government, education, health care, mining, and financial services. Before Hazell & Associates, Mike worked in the independent school system, started two of his own businesses and served as a town planner.

Mike frequently provides strategic support to executive teams planning for realignment, mergers/acquisitions or significant growth. He has designed over 200 successful teambuilding and 100 leadership development programs for various ministries and departments. He recently supported two Deputy Ministers with their team building and development needs and provided leadership development and transition services to every Ontario Provincial ministry.

Mike received a national award through the Canadian Institute of Mining for helping organizations deal with change. He is a certified Career Management Professional (CMP) with Level 2 National Coaching Certification. Mike earned a B.ED degree at the University of Toronto and a B.E.S. Honours Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Waterloo, where he won the prestigious Mike Moser Award for exemplary academic and extracurricular achievement and was a Rhodes Scholar nominee. Mike also graduated from Ridley College winning their top award, the Mason Gold Medal.

Mike's key areas of expertise include executive coaching and career management, leadership development and succession planning, building team cohesiveness & clarity and transition coaching.

Mike served on the Canadian Educational Standards Institute (CESI), the Canadian Independent Schools' (CIS) External Relations Committee and Ridley College’s Human Resource committee. He is an active member of The Toronto Eglinton Rotary Club, where he was named a Paul Harris Fellow in appreciation of his work with Youth and the Vocational Committee. Through his Rotary work, in 2007, Mike became one of twelve life coaches for the PACT program, an innovative restorative justice program for youth. In 2009, he helped introduce the Rotary-Toronto Argonauts SAS Youth Leadership Development program to 2,000 Toronto teens.
