Richard is an experienced financial executive and an entrepreneur. His major roles at Hazell & Associates are coaching and counselling senior executives and directing the entrepreneurial program. His variety of experience in the financial industry provides him with a solid base from which to advise individuals involved in this industry.

Richard commenced his financial career as a corporate lender with a major Canadian bank. He was a founding member of the merchant banking group of a Canadian financial conglomerate. The group’s activities centered on the provision of mezzanine and subordinated debt to private and public Canadian companies.

In the early 90’s Richard assumed the presidency of the group’s parent company, a TSE listed company. He was responsible for the management of the corporation’s assets, which included a portfolio of corporate and real estate assets. In 1998 the corporation amalgamated with a major Canadian fund manager. Richard was retained as a consultant to assist in the integration of the two companies. Since that time Richard has developed a California based real estate project and is a partner of Squire Capital Ltd., a firm which provides financial advisory services to mid size Canadian corporations. Richard continues to provide advice to and sits on the boards of a variety of companies.

Richard is a graduate of the University of Guelph with an Honours Bachelor of Commerce Degree. While at Guelph he was President of the Hotel and Food School Student Association and the recipient of both the Canteen of Canada and Dorothy Shantz Memorial scholarships.
